X Wind completes full-size test rig

X-Wind Power has completed the installation of its full-size test rig, which will be instrumental in testing and validating the main systems of its innovative vertical wind turbine design ahead of in-field pre-production trials planned later in 2015. The trials are being carried out in partnership with one of the UKs largest energy users and funded by the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC).

X-Wind received its first fully assembled driveshaft bringing together critical generation and control components including permanent magnet generator and braking system. The first pre-production head assembly is on track to be delivered within the coming weeks. The test rigs will condense years of in field use into a few months as they will take the turbine through many high duty cycles and simulate extreme gusts and high wind loadings.

X-Wind also continues to build a strong sales pipeline with several agreements now in place to cover NI and Republic of Ireland as well as schools sector. The X-Wind turbine has been designed for high energy users who wish to have their own power generation assets close to their existing infrastructure, and will provide power at a price comparable to the existing grid.
