Soon after we founded Ruffena, we set about planning to build our own investment platform, as nothing like this existed in the market. The regulated corporate finance world and the investment transactions at the heart of it are complex, laden with regulation and have clients, advisers and investors all communicating simultaneously. Off the shelf CRM or deal management systems were too broad and inefficient, and our focus is very specifically equity and debt for growth opportunities for private capital.
Our platform therefore performs four functions for us, our clients and our investors:
- MANAGEMENT: A transaction management system from initial enquiry through to completion.
- ACCESS: Enables our funds and investors to set their preferences, access opportunities and the supporting data room, as well as contact the team from any smart device anywhere in the world, 24x7.
- CRM: Enables us to enjoy a private, tailored customer relationship management system to ensure our team always knows who is who and who we should be talking to about what, and when.
- MARKETING: Although we do not undertake wide area marketing, elements of the platform do link directly to events we are running, newsletters we produce and mean that elements of our website can be automatically updated with key content.
After a year of building, the new platform went live in early 2014, since when we have invested twice since to add more features and improve workflow capabilities. We have also recently agreed to license a duplicate platform to a group of related businesses, who sought some of the above benefits, but wished to avoid committing the 12 months of management time required to have their own built, to stay nothing of the six figure investment also needed to do it properly!
